The Evolution and Future of Single-Cell Proteogenomics
Providing higher multiplex phenotypic characterization over flow cytometry in addition to single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes by sequencing (CITEseq) has huge potential to take single-cell biology to unprecedented new levels. An extremely powerful technique, thanks to its capacity to simultaneously combine protein and transcriptomic analysis in thousands of cells in parallel, CITE-seq affords enhanced understanding of a diversity of cellular processes. This is achieved using antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates to couple specific detection of protein markers with unbiased transcriptome profiling, opening up the possibility to identify novel cell types and shed new light on previously unseen events.
