Tumor angiogenesis and invasive capacity is influenced, in part, by events in the tumor microenvironment. Vasquez Rodriguez et al. investigated how cytokines and growth factors released by breast adipocytes modify the tumor microenvironment leading to increased angiogenesis and metastasis. They found that release of VEGF and IL-8 by breast adipocytes causes increased tumor angiogenesis. Additionally, elevated IL-8 in the tumor microenvironment resulted in the recruitment of neutrophils and modified expression of cell adhesion molecules on both neutrophils and cancer cells ultimately leading to increased dissemination of tumor cells. Study the tumor microenvironment with our new LEGENDplex™ Human Angiogenesis Panel allowing you to simultaneously quantify 10 key targets involved in the complex process of angiogenesis! |
