Synaptic Vesicle Exocytosis
Synaptic vesicles (SV) are organelles responsible for neuronal communication by storing neurotransmitters at the presynaptic terminals of axons, and releasing them into the extracellular space within the synaptic cleft. The docking and membrane fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane in neurons is mediated by SNARE proteins. Syntaxin 1, SNAP-25 and synaptobrevin 2 are the key SNARE proteins involved in SV exocytosis. Syntaxin-1 and SNAP-25 reside in the presynaptic plasma membrane while synaptobrevin 2 is anchored in the presynaptic vesicle membrane. Upon synaptic stimulation, these proteins form a ternary complex that promotes the fusion of the vesicle and the presynaptic plasma membrane to drive neurotransmitter release. BioLegend is proud to offer a variety of neuroscience-related products for your research needs.
