Western blot of purified anti-CSTB antibody (BL28583). Lane 1: Molecular weight marker; Lane 2: 20 µg of rat brain lysate. The blot was incubated with 0.5 µg/mL of the primary antibody overnight at 4°C, followed by incubation with HRP-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG (Cat. No. 405306). Enhanced chemiluminescence was used as the detection system.

Cystatin B (CSTB) is a type 1 cystatin belonging to the cystatin superfamily. There are three cystatin subfamilies including type 1 cystatins, type 2 cystatins, and kininogens. Cystatins are thought to have a protective role against the proteases that leak from the lysosomes by inhibiting their cysteine proteinase activity. CSTB can covalently form dimers, tetramers, or oligomers. CSTB oligomers bind to aggregated amyloid-beta (Aβ) and reduce Aβ fibril formation.
