CD154, also known as CD40L, TNFSF5, T-BAM, and gp39, is a 32-39 kD type II transmembrane glycoprotein member of the TNF superfamily expressed on activated T cells. CD154 interacts as a costimulatory molecule with CD40 on B cells to induce B cell activation, resulting in proliferation, immunoglobulin production, and Ig isotype switching. CD40L also may regulate T cell cytokine production.
