CD204, also known as scavenger receptor A (SR-A) and the macrophage scavenger receptor (MSR), is one of the phagocytic pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) expressed on macrophages and dendritic cells. CD204 was initially identified as a receptor mediating recognition and internalization of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) by macrophages and playing critical roles in atherogenesis. Recent studies have revealed that CD204 recognizes apoptotic cells, modified lipid proteins, and exogenous pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), which results in the induction of innate immune and inflammatory responses. CD204 can act as a co-receptor for Toll-like receptors, such as TLR3, TLR4, or TLR9, to facilitate the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. CD204 has been implicated in several pathological processes such as Alzheimer’s disease, sepsis, ischemic injury, and coronary artery disease.

- Recommended Usage
-
Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by Western blotting. For Western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.25 - 1.0 µg per ml. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.
- Application Notes
-
CD204 is polymorphic and clone 7G5C33 may not react with all mouse strains. In house testing with this clone showed no reactivity to C57BL/6 mouse spleen samples.
The predicted molecular weight of CD204 is 50 kD, the observed molecular weight when clone 7G5C33 is used for western blot is ~70 kD. This is likely due to glycosylation of CD204 at multiple sites. - RRID
