Description
IFN-β is a type I class of interferon produced by macrophages, dendritic cells, endothelial cells and primarily fibroblasts. It plays a significant antiviral activity role within the innate immune response to infection, cell differentiation and anti-tumor defenses. Once secreted, it binds to a homologous receptor complex and activates the Jak/STAT pathway, resulting in upregulating genes that inhibit viral infection and regulate MHC class 1 antigens. Multiple sclerosis is characterized by a deficiency of IFN beta 1 and is commonly been used as an injectable treatment.
