RNA binding-protein Nova-1(NOVA1) is a brain-specific splicing factor well conserved in vertebrates. It was first identified as an antigen in paraneoplastic opsoclonus-myoclonus ataxia (POMA), a disorder related to breast cancer and motor dysfunction. Nova1 binds to a specific sequence cluster in the brain to regulate neuronal pre-mRNA splicing. Nova1-binding sequences are 94% identical in vertebrates, suggesting the binding is sequence dependent. Nova1 null mice die postnatally from motor deficits associated with neuronal cell death in spinal cord and brain stem.

Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by Western blotting. For Western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.05 - 0.5 µg per ml. For immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, a concentration range of 1.0 - 10 µg/ml is suggested. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.
- Application Notes
-
Multiple bands observed on WB correspond to different NOVA1 splice variants (1).
