PLAUR (uPAR), also known as CD87, is a urokinase-type plasminogen activator system consisting of proteinase, receptor, and inhibitor. PLAUR is involved
in proteolysis, cell migration and tissue remodeling by proteolysis, signal transduction and chemokine-like activities. It predominately plays roles in cell activation, adhesion, migration, and extravasation in blood cells.
High serum levels of soluble PLAUR (uPAR) are associated with lower survival rates in cancer and HIV-1 patients. Research on COVID-19 suggests that levels of PLAUR (uPAR) are increased in COVID-19 patients that are hospitalized and are in critical condition.
The BioLegend ELISA MAX™ Deluxe Set is a sandwich Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The mouse monoclonal capture antibody is first coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and Human PLAUR (uPAR) protein binds to the immobilized capture antibody. Next, biotinylated anti-human PLAUR (uPAR) detection antibody is added, producing an antibody-antigen-antibody “sandwich”. Avidin horseradish peroxidase is subsequently added, followed by TMB Substrate Solution, producing a blue color in proportion to the concentration of Human PLAUR (uPAR) present in the sample. Finally, the Stop Solution changes the reaction color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbance is read at 450 nm with a microplate reader.
