Aldolase C is one of the three aldolase isozymes and plays a key role in ATP biosynthesis. It participates in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis by catalyzing the conversion of fructose-1-6-biphosphate to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, or glyceraldehyde, and di-hydroxy-acetone-phosphate. In addition, it is part of the stress-response pathway induced by hypoxia. It has been found that Aldolase C is upregulated in the brains of schizophrenia patients. Moreover, inactivation of Aldolase C by oxidation has been reported in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by western blotting. For western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.25 - 1.0 µg/mL. For immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, a concentration range of 1.0 - 5.0 µg/mL is suggested. For immunocytochemistry, a concentration range of 2.5 - 5.0 μg/mL is recommended. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.

Antigen Details
- Structure
- Aldolase C is a 364 amino acid protein with an expected molecular weight of 39 kD.It is a member of the three aldolase isozymes. Aldose C shares 68% identity with Aldolase B and 78% with Aldolase A. The catalytic site is highly conserved in all three isoforms.
- Distribution
-
Although Aldolase C is widely expressed, it is predominantly expressed in the hippocampus, Purkinje cells, neurons of the brain, and smooth muscle.
- Function
- Glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible aldol cleavage of fructose-1,6-biphosphate and fructose 1-phosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate and either glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate or glyceraldehyde, respectively.
