LDL Receptor Related Protein 8 (LRP8), also known as ApoER2, is a receptor for members of low-density lipoproteins. LRP8 interacts with its ligand reelin, and triggers reelin signaling to regulate cellular processes such as neuronal cell migration and long-term potentiation of mature neurons. LRP8 also interacts with and downregulates APP endocytosis. This interactions leads to increased amyloid beta production, demonstrating a major role for LRP8 in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Antigen Details
- Structure
- LRP8 is a 963 amino acid protein with an apparent molecular mass of ~105 kD.
- Distribution
-
Tissue Distribution: brain, endocrine tissue, testis, and placenta
Cellular Distribution: plasma membrane, extracellular, and cytoskeleton - Function
- LRP8 functions as the receptor for reelin. Binding and endocytosis of reelin triggers downstream signaling pathways that affects neuronal migration and postnatal LTP.
- Interaction
- FE65, JIP1, JIP2, Thrombosphondin, F-Spondin
