GPR83, also known as GIR, is a seven-pass membrane protein that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. GPR83 is an orphan GPR homologous to tachykinin and neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptors. GPR83 is expressed in the brain and in both murine and human Treg cells. GPR83 is reported to regulate core body temperature and there are four isoforms of GPR83. Studies have suggested that isoform-4, but not isoform-1, is associated with the suppressive functions of Treg cells. The precise role of GPR83 in Treg function is unclear.
