CD33, also known as Siglec-3, Sigle, gp67, p67, and gp6, is a member of the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin lectins (Siglec). CD33 extracellular portion contains two immunoglobulin domains (one IgV and one IgC2 domain). The intracellular portion of CD33 contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs) that are implicated in inhibition of cellular activity. CD33 is primarily expressed on granulocytes in peripheral blood and spleen, as well as on myeloid precursors in the bone marrow.
