Epitope tags are useful for the labeling and detection of proteins using immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, and immunostaining techniques. The V5 tag is a 14 amino acid peptide derived from a small epitope (Pk) on the P and V proteins of simian virus 5 (SV5), a member of the paramyxovirus family. Because of its small size, the addition of a V5 tag sequence (GKPIPNPLLGLDST) to a given gene creates a stable fusion product that does not appear to interfere with the biochemical properties of the protein. Many recombinant proteins have been engineered to express a short sequence derived from the V5 molecule known as V5-tag.
