ABL1 is a protooncogene that encodes a tyrosine kinase protein. ABL1 is involved in multiple cellular processes such as adhesion, cell division, autophagy, differentiation and response to stress. ABL1 kinase activity is negatively regulated by interaction with its SH3 domain, thus deletion of the SH3 domain results in an oncogene. Chromosomal translocation involving ABL1 has been found in various leukemias, where the most notable is the t (9;22) that results in a fusion with the breakpoint cluster region gene (BCR). This rearrangement is present in many cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia, and leads to an unregulated tyrosine kinase activity which induces uncontrolled cellular proliferation.

Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by western blotting. For western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.125 - 1.0 µg/mL. For flow cytometric staining, the suggested use of this reagent is ≤ 0.25 µg per million cells in 100 µL volume. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.

Antigen Details
- Structure
- ABL1 is an approximately 125 kD protein. However, when it is fused with BCR, the molecular weight is around 210 kD.
- Distribution
-
Mainly located in cytoplasm, but it can also be found in the nucleus, mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum
- Function
- ABL1 is a protein kinase that is negatively regulated via interaction with its SH3 domain, and after deletion of the SH3 domain, it becomes an oncogene. It also plays a role in several cellular processes like: cell growth, cell motility, adhesion, autophagy, and apoptosis.
