Cancer/testis antigen 1 also known as LAGE2 or LAGE2B is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CTAG1B gene. It is most often referenced by its alias New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma 1(NY-ESO-1). Cancer/Testis Antigen 1B is a protein belonging to the family of Cancer Testis Antigens (CTA) that are expressed in a variety of malignant tumors at the mRNA and protein levels, but also restricted to testicular germ cells in normal adult tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is an antigen that is overexpressed in many cancers but it is also expressed in normal testis.

Antigen Details
- Structure
- CTAG1B is 180 amino acid long protein of 18 kD, containing epitopes of humoral and cellular responses in its glycine rich N terminal region and an extremely hydrophobic C terminal region.
- Distribution
-
Normal expression is restricted to germ cells of the testis, ovary, and trophoblast cells of the placenta and upregulated in a variety of malignant tumors
- Function
- CTAG1B elicit both humoral and cellular immune responses in patients with cancer and therefore is a high priority target for cancer vaccine development and adoptive T-cell therapies.
