Description

CD228 is a cell-surface sialoglycoprotein found on melanoma cells that consists of a cell membrane, lipid-anchor and GPI-anchor domains. It is involved in iron uptake and shares sequence similarity and iron-binding properties that are found in members of the transferrin superfamily. CD228 is internalized before being recycled back to the cell membrane and is also capable of binding zinc.
