Energy Reduction

• Our campus headquarters is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified, including a 4,830 sq. ft green roof, solar panels, and electric charging stations in our parking structure.
• We provide free electric vehicle charging stations so employees can charge their vehicles while at work.
• We employ a suite of energy saving measures: high efficiency LED bulbs and automated light systems, computer stations set up with power management capabilities, high performance glass windows, and smart thermostats, just to name a few.

Water Conservation

• Our landscape incorporates drought-tolerant plants and drip-system/smart monitoring irrigation to reduce water use and loss. We use recycled water for landscape irrigation where secondary water facilities exist.
• We have incorporated touchless faucets, low-flow toilets and urinals at our facilities.
• We track monthly water usage and investigate any notable changes in usage.

Waste Reduction

• BioLegend is RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) compliant. This includes source reduction in labs.
• BioLegend has a comprehensive hazardous and biohazardous waste management program to ensure complete compliance with all local, state and federal hazardous waste laws and to minimize production of hazardous wastes. Hazardous waste generation and management is regularly audited to ensure optimal performance.
• Wherever possible, we reuse/repurpose materials in place of disposal and E-Waste is picked up by a “green” recycle company

Product Packaging

BioLegend develops and packages products with the environment in mind.
 

• We have adopted an initiative to reduce plastics and replace expanded polystyrene while still conforming with DOT/IATA guidelines and certification with ASTM and ISTA.
• We have reduced dry ice use in packaging and moved to minimal packing materials.
• We have been pioneers in achieving a low carbon footprint in our shipments. We monitor our suppliers, moving toward sustainable sourcing throughout our operations.

Biodiversity

BioLegend recognizes the value and responsibility of our facilities being housed near naturally occurring native plants and animals.
 

• We employ best practices to minimize negative impacts of our operations on plants, animals, and their natural habitats.
• We take measures to ensure no dumping takes place at storm water drains and that drains are maintained to minimize sediment and debris from entering.
• We employ Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to avoid negatively impacting local wildlife while protecting our employees, our products, and the environment.
