Western blot of purified anti-Gemin 3 antibody (clone 12H12). Lane 1: Molecular weight marker; Lane 2: 20µg of HeLa cell lysate; Lane 3: 10µg of HeLa cell lysate; Lane 4: 5µg of HeLa cell lysate. The blot was incubated with 2 µg/mL of the primary antibody overnight at 4°C, followed by incubation with HRP-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG (Cat. No. 405306). Enhanced chemiluminescence was used as the detection system.

Description

Gemin 3, also known as DEAD-box helicase 20 (DDX20), is a putative RNA helicase that contains a conserved ASP-GLU-ALA-ASP (DEAD) motif. Gemin 3 is involved in a variety of cellular processes including initiation of protein translation, ribosome assembly, and alteration of RNA secondary structure. Gemin 3 is one of the core components of the survival of motor neurons (SMN) macromolecule protein complex, which plays an important role in the assembly and re-structuring of small nucleoproteins and transcriptosomes. Gemin 3 may also be involved in cancer as it acts as a tumor suppressor in hepatocellular carcinoma, and as a tumor promoter in breast cancer and prostate cancer2.
